Shashi Tharoor, Jairam Ramesh Slam UK’s Covid Advisory called it ‘Offensive, Racist’
After the UK government has issued its new international travel advisory for Covid vaccinated people visiting the country, it led to a new set of debates and controversies.
On Monday senior Congress leaders, Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor expressed their disappointment and anger. As languished by them, the matter is that the UK has announced the Indians vaccinated with Covishield would still be regaled as unvaccinated.
According to the rules, ” Passengers who aren’t specified as being fully vaccinated with authorized vaccines and certificates under England’s international travel rules, including Indians, will still have to take a pre-departure test, a day 2 and day 8 PCR test, and self-isolate at their given address for 10 days upon entry.”
Former Union ministers Ramesh and Tharoor criticized the UK’s Covid-19-related travel rules and termed it “offensive and smacks of racism”.
“Bizarre considering Covishield was originally developed in the UK and The Serum Institute, Pune has supplied to that country too! This smacks of racism,” Ramesh worded in his tweet.
Tharoor also slammed this bizarre restriction on vaccinated Indians and said, “Because of this I have pulled out of a debate at the Cambridge union &out of launch events for the UK edition of my book #The Battle Of Belonging. It is offensive to ask fully vaccinated Indians to quarantine. The Brits are reviewing!”
