Defense minister ordered 118 Arjun tanks worth Rs7523 crores

The defense ministry has ordered 118 Arjun Mark-1A main-battle tanks, which have 72 “upgrades” for better firepower, mobility, protection, and endurance worth Rs 7523 crores. These tanks are meant to be produced by the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) at Avadi in Tamil Nadu. The VHF assured to produce the tanks within 30 months of indent which now have been placed.

The ministry passed a statement, “The Ministry of Defence (MoD) placed an order with Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), Avadi, Chennai for the supply of 118 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) Arjun Mk-1A for the Indian Army on September 23. The order, worth Rs 7,523 crore, will provide a further boost to the ‘Make in India’ initiative in the defense sector and is a big step towards achieving ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’,”.
